“BFF” Health & Wellness Programs

The “Be Your Body’s Friend Forever” (BFF) initiative promotes health and wellness in the Glebe community. Committee participants coordinate events such as: the Walk, Bike and Roll to School days, National Walk to School Day, National Bike to School Day, monthly initiative to try new foods, and more! Our BFF committee encourages our students to embrace a healthy diet and good fitness habits. In essence, we want the kids to become their body’s BFF – Best Friend Forever!

Nutrition Events

The BFF team occasionally hosts events during and after school. In previous years, the parents have had the kids “eat their way through the ABC’s” with monthly cafeteria visits from a Glebe parent. The kids sampled many different healthy snacks.

Get Moving!

We promote Walk, Ride & Roll Fridays (WRR). In previous years, this committee has organized a Big Sleep Challenge and a Dance Marathon. Glebe PTA parents also organize and host a 5K Race and Fun Run in the spring.

Project Details

Walk, Ride & Roll Fridays: As part of this program, Glebe students commit walking, riding their bikes, or riding their scooters to school on designated days – EVERY FRIDAY, Starting October 13th, and a few other bonus days to be announced.  Volunteers help students keep track of participation by stamping cards. Active participants will have their names placed in a drawing for a prize! Students unable to walk, ride or roll to school on Fridays can have a parent send in a note letting us know that the student was active for at least 15 minutes on that Friday.

BIG Sleep Challenge: For one week of the year, students track their sleep as part of focusing on healthy sleep habits. A coordinator will be responsible for distributing event information, collecting sleep logs, identifying winning classes (based on percentage of participation), and coordinating prizes for winning classes. (Kick-off date and updated details to be posted.)

5K Committee: Help organize the annual Glebe 5K and Fun Run. Tasks vary from event promotion, course set up, volunteer coordination, business sponsorship coordination, and training program coordination (Updated details to be posted.)

BFF Cafeteria Help:  Help our BFF Nutrition Coordinator in the cafeteria on the days she brings samples to school. Encourage students to try new things and talk to them about the benefits of what is being featured.  Dates and days change from month-to-month (usually on Fridays). (Updated details to be posted.)

Recess and Playspaces:  Help us think about ways to improve recreational equipment at Glebe. The PTA has installed the large web climber at our playground, as well as the gaga ball game area. We are always thinking about new ways to improve our playspaces.
