The Glebe Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a community of parents and educators working together to enhance the educational experience for all of our children. Glebe is located in Arlington, Virginia, and serves over 600 students.
The Glebe PTA supports our schools’ mission to encourage active learning. Students engage in hands-on activities in all curricular areas. Science features active engagement with the scientific method and with activities both indoors and in our outdoor classroom and gardens. Our exemplary project, the smART Project (science, math, art, and technology) combines science and math through hands-on engagement with a modern art form, visual art, dance, music, or theater. The interdisciplinary creativity of Glebe students is often on display in hallways, in art installations in the front of the school, and at student-created productions and musical presentations.
To offer more opportunities to students, ranging from computer coding to fencing, the PTA runs an after-school enrichment program and also funds scholarships so that all students can participate. To empower creative ideas, the PTA finances a grant program to fulfill the needs of specific proposals by Glebe’s teachers. The PTA has made major investments to upgrade classroom technology for teachers and students, who use iPads for tasks ranging from research to movie editing.
Glebe was the first school in the county to implement the Foreign Language in Elementary School initiative, developing Spanish classes for students several times a week. Glebe celebrates an annual Multicultural Night and Soccer Fiesta. The PTA has supported student efforts to think internationally and to raise funds to build playgrounds in other countries.
Fitness and wellness are important community values – many Glebe students participate in an organized sport – and both on the playground and in our physical education classes we live the value that everyone gets to play! The PTA runs an innovative “Be Your Body’s Friend Forever” (BFF) healthy living campaign, which rewards students who choose to walk, bike, or roll to school weekly. The PTA also sponsors Field Day and the Glebe 5K and fun run.
Please note, there are areas of our website that are just for PTA members. If you try to access a page, and the content isn’t there, please try to log in and make sure that you have paid your dues for the year. Thanks for being a part of the Glebe PTA!
